About VisSim
VisSim Vessel Traffic Management Systems are installed in some of the busiest waters in the world: surveillance, navigation safety, efficient traffic flow, interdiction, environmental protection.

From New Zealand to the North Sea, VisSim has more than 60 Vessel Traffic Management Systems operating in over fifteen countries. The world's largest maritime surveillance system - more than 45 radars and 30 operator stations - was built by VisSim for Statoil and Norsk Hydro.

VisSim VTMS systems are smart, reliable, and user-friendly. We design systems using optimal sensors and subsystems - and our unique radar and sensor data processing systems. VisSim installations often combine new technologies and legacy installations.

We modularize systems - we purchase most of the off-the-shelf hardware and PCs from customers' preferred local suppliers. VisSim can supply life-of-installation system upgrades and service as well as on-site installation and training.

History
VisSim was founded in 1988 by two pioneers in radar detection and tracking technology, Mr. Finn Fjellheim and Mr. Per G. Bruaroy. From the first shipboard ARPA in the early 1970s to recently developed small-target detection systems for military and civilian applications, VisSim engineers are world-renowned for their radar extractor & tracker products. Daylight-viewing monitors display intelligent target tracking, alarm, and ID information. VisSim's exploitation of IP networking provides great flexibility as to the location of sensors or operations centers - all networked at a reasonable cost.

An extensive experience in multimedia, combined with years of experience in radar detection and tracking, formed the basis for the new generation of radar extractor & trackers for civil as well as military applications that we developed in 1996/97, and continuously refining to improve especially detection of smaller targets. See descriptions below for details.

Our portfolio is not limited to radar extractor & tracking. We are today covering all aspects of VTMS for ports as well as coastal surveillance, where detection of smaller targets is essential. This includes also port information systems where users of a port will get all information regarding the port activities, vessel schedules etc. via Internet.

VisSim is first of all a software house. We have hardware engineers to cover our own design like the radar interface (VEM Video Extractor Module) and interface to sensors, which is not using standard interface like serial line or network. We have also engineers for installation and commissioning, but for larger projects we are teaming up with companies for civil work and mechanical installation. Our philosophy is to keep our organization as lean as possible. We normally advice our customer to purchase the standard components like PC’s, monitors, network components and auxiliary equipment locally. In this way we are supporting local industry, and in case of break down of e.g. a PC, the local supplier will substitute it on a short notice.

VisSim personnel perform all development and our application software is 100% owned by VisSim. The know-how is in our software, not the sensors we are using, as long as we know how to interface the sensors and process the information from them.
